Privacy policy

ChatGPTToClaude exists to move your AI history, not to keep it. This page explains exactly what happens to your data, in plain language, in the same order it happens when you use the tool.

What we process, step by step

  • Your export file is parsed in your browser. The ZIP or JSON you upload is read locally on your device. The file itself is never uploaded to our servers.
  • Distilled excerpts are processed for extraction. Batches of conversation text are sent to our API, which forwards them to Anthropic's Claude API to extract context items (projects, preferences, people, decisions). This processing is transient: excerpts are not written to any database and are not retained by us after the request completes. Under Anthropic's commercial API terms, API inputs and outputs are not used to train their models.
  • Extracted items are kept in your browser, not on our servers. The context items and your final document live in your browser's local storage so they survive the payment redirect. You can remove them at any time by clearing site data for chatgpttoclaude.co.
  • Your finished document is yours. It is generated on demand and returned to your browser. We do not keep a copy.

The only things we store

  • Anonymous usage events. When a migration runs we record: direction (e.g. ChatGPT → Claude), conversation count, detected language, and whether it was a free or paid run. No conversation content, no names, no email addresses, no IP-based profiles.
  • Payment records. Payments are processed by Stripe. We never see or store your card details. Stripe provides us the payment status and receipt reference, and handles your receipt email under its own privacy policy.
  • Aggregate analytics. We use DataFast, a cookie-free analytics service, to count page views and referrers in aggregate. We do not run advertising trackers.
  • Your AI Passport, if you create one. A passport is an optional paid account. It stores your email address, the distilled context items in each profile, and the version history of those profiles. It never stores your raw conversations. If you create ingest keys or connect an app, we store a hash of the key and the name of the connected app, never the key itself. You can delete a profile, a key, a connection, or the whole account, at any time.

Aggregate research (opt-in)

Passport holders can choose to have their profile counted in anonymous aggregate statistics about how people carry context between AI assistants. This is off unless you turn it on, it lives in your passport settings, and turning it off again takes effect on the next computation.

  • What is counted. Only numbers: how many items a profile holds, which of the fixed categories those items fall into, whether items are durable or temporary, how many profiles an account has, and how often profiles are re-synced.
  • What is never read. The text of your items. The queries that produce these statistics select counts and fixed category labels only, so no sentence you wrote is read, stored, or published.
  • Small numbers are withheld, not rounded. Nothing is published at all until at least 50 people have opted in, and any individual figure backed by fewer than 25 people is dropped rather than reported. This is what stops a statistic being reversed into a person.
  • What we may do with it. Publish it, and offer it as research. Because it is counts over a large group with small figures suppressed, it is not personal data and cannot be traced back to you. We do not sell, rent, or share anything at the level of an individual profile, item, or account.

Legal basis: your consent, recorded with a timestamp, withdrawable at any time from your passport.

What we never do

  • Store your raw conversations, on any server, for any duration beyond processing a request.
  • Use your data to train AI models, or permit our processors to.
  • Sell, rent, or share your data with advertisers or data brokers. This covers your conversations, your context items, and your profiles, and it is not affected by the opt-in aggregate above, which is counts only and never leaves the aggregate.
  • Require an account, login, or email address to run a migration. (An AI Passport subscription does need an account, and is entirely optional.)

Your rights (GDPR)

We operate from the European Union and process data under the GDPR. If you use the migration tool without a passport, we store almost nothing about you and most rights are satisfied by design: there is no account to access, correct, or port. If you hold an AI Passport, you can read, correct, export and delete your profiles from the dashboard at any time, and deleting the account removes them. For anything else — including questions about the anonymous event data or a payment record — contact us and we will respond within 30 days. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with your local supervisory authority.

Legal bases: performance of a contract (running your migration, your passport subscription, and payment), legitimate interest (anonymous usage statistics and site security), and consent (the opt-in aggregate research described above, and nothing else).

Processors we rely on

  • Anthropic — context extraction via the Claude API (transient processing, no training on API data).
  • Stripe — payment processing.
  • Vercel — hosting and content delivery.
  • Supabase — storage of the anonymous usage events described above.
  • Neon — database hosting for AI Passport accounts and profiles (EU region).
  • Resend — delivery of passport sign-in links.
  • DataFast — cookie-free aggregate analytics.
